Pay raise delayed, accruing more interest

In typical federal government fashion, the USDA reported that the implementation of the NDAA pay raise for GS-12 Border Patrol agents has been delayed from June 2024 until August 2024.

If you were not already aware, the USDA’s National Finance Center operates payroll functions for CBP and over 100 other agencies, and they have to program their software to include the pay raise. They had initially projected it would take until June to implement, but we were recently informed that they are now projecting it to take effect in Pay Period 16, which begins on August 11, 2024.

By delaying it further, they obligate the agency to pay additional interest when back pay is issued to everyone. Earlier this week, Senators Sinema and Lankford sent a letter to USDA Secretary Thomas Vilsack requesting an explanation for the delays. We will keep you posted regarding his response.
