The National Border Patrol Council has published a summary of the Senate Appropriations for CBP that was recently passed. Some of the key points include:
- Sequestration stays in place. The appropriation remains subject to the $85 billion in sequestration cuts. In addition, some agencies, such as the USDA, will face approximately 2 percent of across-the-board cuts. CBP is not subject to such cuts.
- While leaving the sequester in place, the CBP budget is relatively healthy compared to other agencies due to bipartisan support. The section-by-section budget maneuver cushions CBP from some of the harshest outcomes under sequestration–by resetting the starting level against which sequestration would apply against.
